Algernon Yau seeks closer ties between HK, Apec members
Algernon Yau, the secretary for commerce and economic development, is in Lima to look for prospects for investment and collaboration with other economies in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or Apec.
On his first full day in the Peruvian capital, Yau held bilateral meetings with his Thai and Indonesian counterparts on the sidelines of the Apec summit.
He first met Thai commerce minister Pichai Naripthaphan. The pair exchanged pleasantries in basic Cantonese, before sitting down for a formal dialogue behind closed doors.
The SAR commerce chief then held similar exchanges with Budi Santoso, the Indonesian minister of trade.
Yau briefed the southeast Asian delegations about the latest development in Hong Kong, and explored potential cooperation opportunities.
He also expressed gratitude to both Thailand and Indonesia for their support regarding the SAR's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or Rcep.
