Judge attacked | Strictly pursue legal responsibility, strengthen security measures, CE says
A 32-year-old man attempted to attack Magistrate Edward Wong Ching-yu with a knife during a hearing at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts on November 4. The man was charged with one count of "attempting to injure", and the case was adjourned to January 3 of next year, during which time the defendant was remanded in custody.
In a press conference before the Executive Council today (Nov. 12), the Chief Executive, John Lee, said he condemned any attempt to interfere with court hearings and judicial officers by unlawful means, and that he will strictly pursue legal responsibility and strengthen security measures.
Lee emphasized that the Judiciary and the Police have already made a good connection in this regard, and the security of the court has been upgraded immediately, and the details will be continuously upgraded by the Police and the Judiciary to ensure that the judicial officers can conduct a fair trial normally without any interference.
