Krejcikova advances to semifinals to face Zheng Qinwen at WTA Finals
At the WTA Finals in Riyadh on Thursday, Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic defeated American Coco Gauff in straight sets to go to the semifinals as the winner of the singles Orange Group.
In the third-round match of the Orange Group singles, eighth-seed Krejcikova faced third-seed Gauff, who had already secured a semifinal spot. Krejcikova took the first set 7-5 by breaking Gauff's serve one extra time. In the second set, Krejcikova clinched the match with a crucial late break to win 6-4.
With this victory, Krejcikova secured her place as the Orange Group winner and will meet China's top-ranked player Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals. The two have only met once before, with Zheng emerging victorious after a three-set comeback. In the other semifinal, top seed Aryna Sabalenka will face Gauff.
In the doubles semifinals, Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez will meet Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. Meanwhile, Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend will compete for a finals spot against Chan Hao-ching and Veronika Kudermetova.
