US presidential election | Street interview: What bothers voters so much?
On November 5, local time, the official election day for the 2024 U.S. presidential election arrived, with the next president's seat depending on whether Trump or Harris prevails based on voter turnout that day. Pre-election polls indicated that the two candidates were in a dead heat, with no clear advantage in swing states. A team of reporters from Point News visited multiple polling stations and interviewed several voters about their overall feelings regarding this year's election. Key phrases such as "very important" and "anxiety, tension, unease" were frequently mentioned.
Voter Valerie believes this election is extremely important, stating, "It's the most important election of my life."
Voter Joe also expressed that this presidential election feels more significant than in previous years. Many interviewees shared this sentiment, with voter April expressing deep concern, stating that this is a crucial election because the U.S. is in a precarious situation politically, socially, and culturally, including women's rights, which she described as "at stake."
Voter Jose found it hard to describe his feelings about this year's election, saying he felt worried and anxious. He expressed his dislike for Trump and his desire for him not to be president.
Emelyn said she felt afraid and nervous, believing that many people are engulfed in anxiety. Despite New York being a traditionally blue state, she maintained a cautious attitude about Harris's chances of winning. Emelyn views Trump as a "tyrant, racist, and sex offender," and the scariest prospect for her is Trump winning re-election. Considering the actions of Trump's associates after his last loss, Emelyn finds the potential outcomes frightening.
Valerie echoed these sentiments, stating that she voted for Harris because she felt "the other candidate is a nut." She believes that regardless of who wins, trouble may arise. "I'm sure measures are being taken to prevent something like January 6 from happening again," she noted.
