HK records highest October temperatures and 90% drop in rainfall
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) reported today (Nov. 4) that October's weather was unusually warm due to a weaker-than-normal northeast monsoon over southern China.
Last month, Hong Kong experienced its highest recorded temperatures for October, with a maximum temperature of 30.3°C, an average temperature of 27.3°C, and a minimum average temperature of 25.4°C. These figures are respectively 2.2°C, 1.6°C, and 1.5°C above the normal values, setting new records for October. Additionally, there were three days of extreme heat, marking one of the highest occurrences for the month.
The HKO also noted that the total rainfall last month was only 11.3 millimeters, about 9% of the normal October value of 120.3 millimeters. From January to October this year, the accumulated rainfall reached 2,115.6 millimeters, which is about 10% less than the normal value for the same period of 2,363.1 millimeters.
