US Election | Biden to attend inauguration of next president, regardless of election outcome
According to foreign media reports, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre stated during a press conference on Oct. 30 that President Joe Biden will attend the inauguration of the next president in January, regardless of who wins the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5.
It's a longstanding tradition in the United States for the outgoing president to attend the inauguration of their successor, even from a different party, as a symbol of the peaceful transfer of power. Jean-Pierre emphasized that Biden believes in the peaceful transition of power and, following tradition, the outgoing president typically attends the successor's inauguration.
Jean-Pierre did not mention that former President Donald Trump broke with this tradition by not attending Biden's inauguration on January 20, 2021, making him the first incumbent in 150 years to skip the inauguration of his successor.
