Two payload specialists from HK and Macao join China's space program
China's space program reaches a new milestone! The selection process for the fourth batch of astronaut candidates under the China Manned Space Program was completed earlier this year, with 10 new astronaut trainees officially joining the ranks. This group includes eight spacecraft pilots and two payload specialists—one from Hong Kong and one from Macao.
Lin Xiqiang, the spokesperson for China's manned space program, announced that the two payload specialists from Hong Kong and Macao joined the team on August 8 and have fully integrated into the rigorous astronaut training program. "They have seamlessly integrated into the team, displaying great enthusiasm and maintaining excellent physical and mental states," Lin emphasized.
The selection process for the fourth batch of astronauts was finalized in May this year. The 10 chosen candidates, including the two payload specialists, entered the training program in August. In the coming months, they will undergo over 200 training courses across eight major categories. The specialized training will not only prepare them for missions aboard China's space station but also equip them with the skills necessary for future manned lunar missions.
Lin provided more details about the two payload specialists from Hong Kong and Macao. Since joining the team on August 8, they have participated in all aspects of astronaut training. Special courses have been designed for them, covering topics like the spirit of manned space exploration and Mandarin language skills. Their dietary needs have also been carefully considered, with customized meal plans to support their training. Both specialists have shown outstanding progress, fully integrating into the team and maintaining a high level of training enthusiasm and well-being.
