HKO: Standby Signal No. 1 expected tomorrow night
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) issued a special weather bulletin at noon today (Oct. 23), stating that tropical cyclone Trami is forecasted to enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong from tomorrow evening (Oct. 24) to early Friday (Oct. 25). During this period, the HKO will issue a Standby Signal No. 1.
The HKO predicts that Trami will move westward and gradually strengthen, heading towards Hainan Island. Meanwhile, a northeast monsoon will reach South China near the weekend. Under the combined influence of Trami and the northeast monsoon, the coastal regions of South China will experience strong winds, increasing cloudiness, and occasional heavy showers during Friday and the weekend.
Depending on the movement and local wind changes associated with Trami, the HKO will assess whether there is a need to upgrade to a Strong Wind Signal No. 3. The path and strength of Trami may vary, with a possibility of lingering near Hainan Island early next week. Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts from the HKO.
