HK to issue guidelines on safeguarding national security for public officials by mid-2024
Mr. Tang Ping-keung, Secretary for Security, announced today (Oct. 23) that the government will issue guidelines in the first half of 2024 to clarify how public officials should adhere to the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance in the course of their duties.
Speaking on a radio program, Tang said that while the law stipulates that public officials must uphold the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance when carrying out their responsibilities, some may be unclear about the specifics. The forthcoming guidelines will aim to provide clear instructions on how to comply with the law, ensuring consistency in its implementation.
This follows Chief Executive John Lee's recent Policy Address on Oct. 16, which underscored the importance of safeguarding national security and the responsibility of public officials in this regard.
