Tropical Storm Trami expected to intensify into typhoon
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) announced today (Oct. 22) that Tropical Storm Trami, located approximately 730 kilometers east of Manila as of 10 a.m., is expected to move northwest at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour towards the Luzon region.
HKO said that according to the current forecast, Trami will gradually intensify and enter the 800-kilometer radius of Hong Kong later this Thursday (Oct. 24) to early Friday(Oct. 25), and the HKO will issue Standby Signal No.1 at that time.
Forecast maps indicate that Trami will traverse the northern part of Luzon in the coming days, subsequently entering the South China Sea and intensifying into a typhoon. By Saturday (Oct. 26), it is expected to be more than 400 kilometers away from Hong Kong, crossing the central and northern parts of the South China Sea.
The HKO notes that later this week, there is a high chance that Trami will enter the northeastern part of the South China Sea. However, its subsequent path is uncertain; it may either travel westward across the central and northern South China Sea or take a more northwestern route closer to the southern coast of China.
Weather forecasts for Hong Kong today predict generally clear and dry conditions with hot temperatures during the day. Light to moderate northeast winds are expected, becoming stronger northerly winds by evening.
The outlook for the next few days remains generally clear and dry, with significantly cooler mornings and evenings. Minimum temperatures may drop to around 22 degrees Celsius, with a considerable day-to-night temperature difference. Windy conditions are expected by the weekend.
