Zheng Qinwen honored as 'Jingchu Role Model' for outstanding tennis achievements

On Oct. 22, the list of "Jingchu Role Models" for the third quarter of 2024 was announced. Tennis player Zheng Qinwen was honored with the prestigious title in recognition of her exceptional performance throughout the year.

In 2024, Zheng made a historic breakthrough by reaching her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open. She went on to capture the gold medal in women's singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Chinese athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in tennis singles. Recently, Zheng also reached the final of the 2024 WTA Wuhan Open for the first time, securing the runner-up position.

The award committee praised Zheng for not only her remarkable achievements on the court but also her resilient spirit, which has inspired countless young athletes and fans.

In the WTA year-end rankings, Zheng currently ranks seventh with 4,480 points, securing her place in the WTA Finals for the first time. She is the second Chinese player, after Li Na, to qualify for the WTA year-end championships.
