Speaking at a press conference today (Oct. 18), Zhang Ning, spokesperson of the National Immigration Administration, P. R. C (NIA) and Deputy Director of the Department of General Affairs, announced that 54,000 applications for Mainland Travel Permits have been submitted since the policy's rollout just over three months ago. The number of applications continues to rise, with approval processes proceeding in an orderly manner.
The NIA has issued Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (non-Chinese Citizens) since July 10.
Zhang noted that the number of permit holders traveling between the Chinese mainland and HK or Macao has seen a steady increase. To date, over 53,000 trips have been made using these permits.
The policy has received widespread praise from various sectors and media outlets in HK and Macao, who have commended it as a reflection of the unique advantages of the "one country, two systems" principle. It is seen as a positive step in fostering a deeper understanding of Chinese national conditions and culture among non-Chinese residents of HK and Macao.
