World Media Summit | Li Dahong: Professional journalists must uphold ethical standards
At the 6th World Media Summit held in Urumqi, Xinjiang, on Oct. 14, Li Dahong, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists and Chairman of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, called on professional journalists to adhere to ethical standards in the face of an increasingly complex media landscape.
Li emphasized the importance of enhancing the credibility and influence of professional media in today's information dissemination ecosystem.
He highlighted that rapid advancements in information technology, including big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, have significantly transformed the media landscape. These technologies facilitate broad, precise, and efficient communication, thereby boosting the effectiveness of global media outreach.
However, he also warned of the growing problem of misinformation and disinformation online, where individuals with various agendas easily spread rumors and falsehoods.
Li referenced the misinformation campaigns that have targeted regions such as Xinjiang and Hong Kong, leading to misconceptions and biases among uninformed audiences. He urged professional media to remain committed to journalistic integrity and to work together globally to foster mutual understanding between civilizations and promote cultural exchange.
The 6th World Media Summit, co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, runs from Oct. 12 to 17 in Beijing and Xinjiang.
