Several countries sever diplomatic ties with Israel following attacks
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops stationed in the border areas of Naqoura and Rabouna in southern Lebanon on several occasions during the Oct. 10 and 11, resulting in injuries to at least five peacekeepers and arousing the indignation of the international community.
Many parties, including China, Russia, and the European Union, have condemned Israel's actions as a serious violation of international law and demanded that the safety of peacekeepers be ensured.
French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez issued a joint statement condemning Israel's recent assaults on UNIFIL on Oct. 11.
When questioned about the incident, U.S. President Joe Biden merely stated he "absolutely, positively" demanded Israel to stop firing at UN peacekeepers without issuing a formal condemnation.
Since the outbreak of renewed conflict between Palestine and Israel in Oct. of the previous year, several nations have progressively declared the cessation of diplomatic relations with Israel, including Nicaraguan, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Bolivia, Colombia, and Honduras.
Turkey indicated it might also sever diplomatic relations with Israel, noting that such a decision would be more effective if made simultaneously by multiple countries.
