Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen defeated Jasmine Paolini of Italy 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the 2024 WTA Wuhan Open Women's Singles.
Zheng will face another Chinese player, Wang Xinyu, who won a three-set battle in the semi-final, marking the first time in the history of the WTA 1000 tournament that a "Local Derby" has taken place.
Zheng Qinwen is ranked 7th in the world and Paolini is ranked 6th in the world. In this match, Zheng took the first set 6-2, and was dragged into the final set 3-6 by Paolini. In the last set, Zheng played heroically and won the final set 6-3.
Talking about her upcoming semi-final match against Wang Xinyu, Zheng responded humorously, "So everyone will be able to enjoy the match".
