
Forbes magazine, obtained the per capita GDP of countries or regions as estimated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and then calculated the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)-adjusted GDP based on the price of goods for ranking.
As many as half of the top 10 countries are European countries, including Luxembourg which ranked 1st and topped the list with US$143,740 (about HK$1,117,400).
As for Asia, 4 countries or regions made it to the top 10. Among them, Macao, with a real GDP per capita of US$134,140 (about HK$1,042,700), ranked 2nd on the list and 1st in Asia; Singapore ranked 4th, with a GDP per capita of US$133,740 (about HK$1,039,500); Qatar, with a GDP per capita of US$112,280 (about HK$872,700); and the 6th Arabian-Islamic country, with a GDP per capita of US$96,850 (about HK$752,800).
Hong Kong ranked 15th with US$75,130 (about HK$580,000).
