Chinese airlines lower fuel surcharges starting today

Air China flights. (DotDotNews)

Several airlines in Chinese Mainland, including Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern, have announced a reduction in fuel surcharges for domestic flights starting today (Oct. 5).

For tickets sold on or after Oct. 5, the surcharge for flights of 800 kilometers or less will be RMB 10 per passenger, while for flights over 800 kilometers, the surcharge will be RMB 20 per passenger.

This adjustment marks a reduction of RMB 20 and RMB 30, respectively, compared to the rates introduced four months ago. Special passenger groups, including children (unaccompanied minors included), disabled revolutionary servicemen, and police officers injured in the line of duty, will be exempt from fuel surcharges for flights of 800 kilometers or less, while a reduced surcharge of RMB 10 will apply for longer flights.

This is the third fuel surcharge reduction this year. It is important to note that the surcharge is based on the ticket issuance date. Only tickets issued on or after Oct. 5 will benefit from the new rates. Tickets issued before Oct. 5, even if travel dates are made on or after Oct. 5, will still be subject to the previous surcharges of RMB 30 and RMB 50.
