Paul Chan: Positive trends in HK's economy amidst global challenges
In his blog, Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan stated that Hong Kong's economy is continuously moving forward. The recent cycle of declining interest rates has begun, and with the mainland announcing several robust economic support measures, the atmosphere in the financial markets has significantly improved, leading to a record daily turnover of over HKD 400 billion in the Hong Kong stock market.
Chan emphasized that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has been actively implementing various policies and initiatives in recent years to expand market opportunities and enhance new development momentum, thereby consolidating and elevating Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international financial center.
He mentioned that he visited Madrid, Spain, and London, UK, last week, leading a delegation of local tech startups to explore new markets. He also introduced Hong Kong's latest developments and the new potential of the Greater Bay Area to local political and business circles.
He noted that the political and business communities in Spain and the UK showed great interest in Hong Kong's traditional and emerging financial services and were very proactive about leveraging Hong Kong to promote business development in China and Asia.
Chan believes that recent overseas visits have helped understand how local political and business figures view Hong Kong, allowing the HKSAR government to formulate more accurate strategies and messaging to promote Hong Kong, dispelling doubts and correcting misunderstandings. He also stated that as the 75th National Day approaches, there is a collective commitment to work hard for the future development of both the nation and Hong Kong.
