Teacher arrested for alleged assault on student at Tai Po secondary school
A secondary school teacher in Hong Kong was arrested for allegedly assaulting a student during a school sports event, leaving the 15-year-old boy with a fractured hand.
The incident took place on the afternoon of Sept. 25 at around 2 p.m. during a sports day held at Tai Po Sports Ground. A 15-year-old male student was chatting with a 17-year-old female classmate in the stands when the boy made remarks about the girl's academic performance, which upset her. The girl then complained to their physical education teacher.
The teacher allegedly lost his temper and grabbed the boy by the neck before pushing him to the ground. The incident was witnessed by a female student.
The boy did not report the incident immediately but later informed his mother after returning home. His mother then accompanied him to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po, where he was diagnosed with a fractured right hand, neck abrasions, and back pain.
After conducting an investigation, police arrested the teacher on the morning of Sept. 26 at around 11:30 a.m. at Tai Po Sports Ground, with school administrators present.
In the early hours of Sept. 27, a post appeared on social media urging parents from the same school to come forward if their children had also been physically harmed by the teacher.
