Professor Lo Yuk-ming may be sole candidate for CUHK's new president
Professor Tuan Sung-chi, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), will see his term end in January 2025. It is said that the CUHK Search Committee has designated Professor Lo Yuk-ming, the current Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Medicine, as the sole candidate for the new president.
The CUHK Council is expected to meet as early as next Friday (Sept. 27) to decide on the appointment. If Lo receives the support of three-quarters of the council members, he will become the next president of CUHK.
Sources indicate that the CUHK Council will hold an informal meeting next Thursday to meet and communicate with Lo, followed by a formal vote during the council meeting on Friday.
Born in 1963 in Hong Kong, Lo is a renowned expert in clinical applications of molecular biology. He joined CUHK in 1997 and currently serves as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences. Previously, he was recognized as the "Father of Non-invasive Prenatal Testing" for his development of non-invasive prenatal diagnostic technologies. Last year, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is also an academician of the World Academy of Sciences and the UK-based Royal Society.
