MIHAS 2024 kicks off with global focus on halal industry
The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2024 was held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from today (Sept. 17) to Sept. 20.
During the opening ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim highlighted a significant trend: in recent years, Asian and European leaders, notably from China and Russia, have increasingly focused on the halal industry. These nations have acknowledged Malaysia's pivotal role in this sector and have actively sought collaboration with the Malaysian government to bolster trade and investment in halal and related industries.
This year's 20th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) features over 2,000 booths and attracts exhibitors from 66 countries. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), expresses his optimism in an interview and hopes to achieve sales of RM3.5 billion, which surpasses the figures achieved in MIHAS 2023.
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) estimates the global halal industry as a significant economic powerhouse, with a current merchandise value of approximately US$3.1 trillion. It is estimated that global Muslim food and beverage spending will reach US$1.89 trillion by 2027, while the overall halal industry is expected to grow to US$5 trillion by 2030.
Additionally, 20 prospective buyers from 13 countries join this year's MIHAS, three of whom are from Hong Kong. These buyers are anticipated to contribute to potential sales of RM1.7 million.
