HK to welcome new pandas by year-end
Hong Kong will soon be gifted two giant pandas from the central government. Chief Executive John Lee hopes these pandas can meet the public by the end of the year after completing their quarantine. Regarding the two pandas born in Hong Kong, he anticipates they will make their public debut in the first quarter of next year.
Before attending the Executive Council meeting, Lee was asked about the pandas. He mentioned that the two giant pandas are currently entering the quarantine phase. Hong Kong and Mainland relevant departments have principally reached an agreement, although the exact arrival time of the pandas is not yet confirmed. Lee hopes the pandas can arrive in Hong Kong by the end of this month, followed by a quarantine period in Hong Kong.
After quarantine, they will need at least a month to adapt to the new environment, with further plans to be arranged according to expert advice. "I hope to meet them before the end of this year," Lee said.
As for the locally born pandas, Lee described them as healthy and currently under expert care, with hopes for their public appearance in the first quarter of next year.
