Deputy District Judge Ms. WONG Nga Yan today (Sept. 16) sentenced eight defendants in the 2019 Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) siege to 50 to 54 months in prison.

This marks the final sentencing related to the PolyU siege riots.

In November 2019, a riot broke out following a police blockade of PolyU, leading to multiple arrests and subsequent prosecutions. Earlier, eight individuals were convicted of rioting.

The eight defendants, aged between 23 and 33, were charged with participating in a riot on or around Nov. 18, 2019, in the area between Waterloo Road and Hamilton Street on Nathan Road in Yau Ma Tei, alongside others.
