Celestial events to light up Mid-Autumn Festival: Supermoon and Conjunction of Moon and Saturn
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the Observatory anticipates a chance to witness a "supermoon" and "Conjunction of the Moon and Saturn" on the evening of Tuesday, September 17. The moon will rise at 5:58 PM, reaching its highest point at 11:57 PM, with the full moon occurring the following morning.
The Observatory announced on social media that the moon will rise to its peak around midnight on the festival night. Since the moon will be at its closest point to Earth, residents may have the opportunity to enjoy a larger and brighter "supermoon," which will appear approximately 7% larger in visual diameter than average, weather permitting. Additionally, the evening will feature the astronomical phenomenon of "Conjunction of the Moon and Saturn," with Saturn visible to the naked eye next to the full moon.
The latest forecast from the Observatory indicates that there will be brief periods of sunshine tomorrow (September 16) and on the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 17), along with some showers. On the festival day, the weather is expected to be mostly cloudy, with sunny intervals and high temperatures during the day, followed by thunderstorms in some areas later on. The day after the festival (September 18) is predicted to be generally clear and hot.
