CE: Policy Address to be announced on Oct. 16
The Chief Executive, John Lee, said in a press conference today (Sept. 14) that he will deliver his third Policy Address in office on Oct. 16.
In a visit to Wong Tai Sin district today, Lee inspected the primary healthcare services, including community pharmacies, traditional Chinese medicine service centers and wellness centers.
Summing up his visit to Wong Tai Sin this morning, Lee said he first inspected a community pharmacy subsidized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, followed by a visit to a nearby Chinese Medicine Service Centre. He stressed that the most important thing was neighborliness, and said he was encouraged by the caring atmosphere of the neighbor.
Lee also pointed out that he had heard the views of different members of the public in many areas and agreed with the Government's policy direction, encouraging him to continue his efforts, which would be helpful in the preparation of the Policy Address and the prioritization of policies.
Lee said that the District Health Centres have gained public recognition and 290,000 people have already registered as members, and more people are expected to join.
He pointed out that 70% of the people using the services of primary healthcare facilities are elderly people, who mainly enquire about their health conditions and listen to advice on chronic diseases. They are also satisfied with services and consider that the drug charges are inexpensive, Lee said, adding that the Government will continue to increase the relevant subsidies.
In addition, he said, the Government will step up its investment in traditional Chinese medicine, and do a better job of collaborating with Chinese and Western medicines.
