Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, announced today (Sept. 13) at the "2024 China Cybersecurity Week Hong Kong Sub-forum" that the Digital Policy Office will lead HK's first real-life cybersecurity attack and defense drill in November.
According to Sun, the drill aims to strengthen defense mechanisms and enhance the cybersecurity and emergency response capabilities of both the government and local organizations.
He emphasized that as government services become increasingly digital, and with the growing adoption of technological innovations, there is a rising demand for a secure cyber environment. It is crucial to raise public awareness of cybersecurity and collaboratively build a robust defense to protect information systems and data from cyber threats.
Maintaining cybersecurity is a shared responsibility across society, requiring active participation from the government, industry, and the general public. Sun urged continued cooperation in tackling cybersecurity challenges, enabling HK to evolve into a safer and more efficient smart city.
This will also accelerate the development of HK as an international innovation and technology hub, aligning with the nation's high-quality development goals, he added.
