Efficient disembarkation procedures for Diamond Princess confirmed by authorities

On the morning of September 11, the Diamond Princess cruise ship visited Hong Kong, bringing 2,600 passengers worldwide to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal (KTCT) for a one-day stay before heading to their next destination. (CSTB)

On the morning of September 11, the Diamond Princess cruise ship visited Hong Kong, bringing 2,600 passengers worldwide to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal (KTCT) for a one-day stay before heading to their next destination.

Reports emerged claiming there were delays in the disembarkation arrangements for the Diamond Princess. However, the Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Bureau (CSTB) clarified on social media today (September 12) that these reports are false.

They stated that all arrangements at the terminal operated smoothly, and additional transportation services were appropriately organized to handle peak crowds. The Immigration Department also facilitated "clearance-on-board" procedures for the cruise passengers, who expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.

It was noted that passengers disembarked approximately one hour after the cruise docked. The additional transportation services effectively managed the influx of visitors during peak times. After disembarking, passengers enjoyed various sightseeing options offered in Hong Kong.

The tourism commissioner also engaged with travelers, who reported being pleased with the arrangements and noted sufficient transportation services and information availability.

The Immigration Department implemented "clearance-on-board" procedures, allowing immigration checks to be conducted on the ship after docking. This arrangement enabled passengers to enjoy meals and other activities on board without queueing in the immigration hall, making it a popular choice among cruise companies and travelers.

Therefore, the reports regarding delays in disembarkation for the Diamond Princess cruise ship are unfounded. A large cruise ship can bring thousands of visitors to Hong Kong. The CSTB, alongside the cruise terminal operators and the Immigration Department, has worked closely over the years to design these convenient clearance arrangements for cruise passengers. Unlike other ports, which typically require 2 to 3 hours to complete all immigration procedures in the hall, the arrangements at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal significantly shorten wait times and enhance the travel experience.
