HK plans to introduce 3,000 electric taxis by 2027, says environment secretary
Hong Kong's Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Tse Chin-wan, announced today (Sept. 12) at a forum that the government plans to introduce 700 electric buses and 3,000 electric taxis by 2027.
This goal is set to establish local certification standards and systems for low-carbon hydrogen energy, seize both environmental and economic opportunities, and nurture new productive capacities.
HK will also collaborate with neighboring regions to explore hydrogen supply networks and the application of hydrogen-powered vehicles, he added.
According to Tse, HK will demonstrate the nation's advancements in hydrogen energy through local pilot projects, including areas such as hydrogen refueling stations, hydrogen fuel cells, heavy-duty trucks, and hydrogen production.
Tse also stated that the use of new energy public transport vehicles is steadily increasing across the city. Currently, nearly 70% of registered private vehicles in HK are electric, to support the transition to electric vehicles, the government is accelerating the installation of charging stations and refueling infrastructure, he said.
