Former English football club Birmingham City F.C. president and Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung, convicted of laundering HK$720 million in 2014 and sentenced to six years in prison, had HK$338 million of his assets ordered seized by the court in 2018.
The case was revisited in the High Court yesterday (Sept. 10). It was revealed that Yeung has so far paid only HK$104 million, with HK$234 million still outstanding. Yeung is currently selling a property on Barker Road, The Peak, to liquidate his assets. The judge has postponed the case to Oct. 22, with a stay on the hearing if Yeung pays the promised amount on time.
According to records, the court ordered the seizure of HK$338 million of Yeung's assets in 2018, with Yeung committing to pay the amount within 12 months. Failure to pay within the deadline could result in a 10-year prison sentence.
