9th Belt and Road Summit kicks off in HK, focusing on connectivity and innovation
The 9th "Belt and Road Summit," co-organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, is being held today (Sept. 11th) and tomorrow (12th) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. Themed "Building a Connected, innovative and Green Belt & Road," the summit brings together over 80 key officials and business leaders from countries and regions along the Belt and Road to explore the vast business opportunities presented by the next golden decade of the initiative.
In her speech, Li Yongjie, Member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative, stated that in recent years, the Ministry has closely collaborated with the Hong Kong SAR Government to promote Hong Kong's participation in and support for the Belt and Road Initiative. The Ministry will continue to deepen and solidify economic and trade cooperation under the initiative, while supporting Hong Kong in leveraging its advantages and characteristics to act as a super connector and value-added player, including accelerating the advancement of bilateral open cooperation.
Li further mentioned that the Ministry will expand Hong Kong's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, enhancing the mainland's openness to Hong Kong under the CEPA framework and actively promoting cooperation in service trade. She also emphasized the Ministry's support for Hong Kong in enhancing its status as an international financial, shipping, and trade center, playing a pivotal role in the Belt and Road Initiative, and encouraging local enterprises to venture abroad. Additionally, the Ministry supports Hong Kong in signing free trade agreements with more countries and regions and aims to expedite its accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
