In a recent blog post, Financial Secretary Paul Chan stated that themed conferences and events attract entrepreneurs and senior executives from various industries and help boost business tourism in Hong Kong.

Chan mentioned that the 9th "Belt and Road" Summit will be held next Wednesday and Thursday, expecting nearly 6,000 participants from over 70 countries and regions, including over 80 political and business leaders from Belt and Road countries. The event will feature over 800 one-on-one investment project matching sessions covering over 280 projects.

He believes the upcoming months will feature various exciting large-scale events, including sports, cultural arts, and gourmet food, coordinated with international business meetings. This will give business travelers a richer itinerary and program options during their stay in Hong Kong, encouraging them to extend their visits and bring their families for leisure activities.

The events planned for this year are expected to generate more consumer spending and create greater economic value for Hong Kong. The authorities will further enhance the promotion and marketing of these events and better coordinate to maximize the synergies between large-scale events, ensuring that the influx of visitors and spending benefits the entire city.

Additionally, reflecting on his recent visit to Melbourne and Sydney, Chan noted that the pandemic and geopolitical factors have decreased Australian visits to Hong Kong and the Mainland over the past few years. During his meetings with local financial, business, and innovation leaders, he actively promoted the advantages of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. This deepens mutual understanding and opens up more potential collaboration opportunities. Representatives from the fintech sector indicated plans to form a delegation to participate in the upcoming Hong Kong FinTech Week at the end of next month.'
