A new study commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that there is no link between long-term cell phone use and an increased risk of brain cancer, according to Reuters.

The study was conducted by 11 researchers from 10 countries, including the Australian Government's authority on radiation protection. 63 studies between 1994 and 2022 are also covered.

The report focuses on the radiation effects of cell phones, television, baby monitors, and radar to assess whether they have something to do with the risks of brain cancer, pituitary malignancy, salivary gland cancer, and leukemia.

The findings, released Tuesday, reveal that there has been no significant increase in the incidence of brain cancer and head and neck cancer in humans, including those who talk on the phone for long periods or have used a cell phone for 10 years or more, despite a significant increase in the frequency of cell phone and wireless technology use over the past two decades.

The WHO and other international health organizations have previously stated that there is no clear evidence of adverse health effects of cell phone radiation. Nevertheless, they have called for more research.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as one of the "probably carcinogenic" Group 2B carcinogens in 2011, which means that a potential link between the two has not been ruled out, leading to concerns about the health effects of prolonged cell phone use.

With the release of the new study results, the IARC Advisory Group has requested a re-evaluation of this classification as soon as possible. The WHO will release an assessment report in the first quarter of next year.
