Hainan and Zhanjiang announce six suspensions due to super typhoon Yagi
Super typhoon Yagi intensified last night (Sept.4) to a severe typhoon (wind speeds of 53–58 m/s) and is expected to make landfall between Hainan's Qionghai and Guangdong's Dianbai tomorrow afternoon to evening.
Southern Guangdong and Hainan Island may experience winds over force 15, heavy rain, and storm surges, with some areas receiving up to 600 mm of rainfall. Hainan's Haikou and Guangdong's Zhanjiang have announced six suspensions: school, work, transportation, shipping, park, and business closures.
Hainan Meteorological Bureau warns Yagi may be the strongest typhoon to hit the island in a decade. The bureau has raised the emergency response to level two, with national emergency teams sent to assist.
