Cathay Pacific cancels more flights due to A350 engine component issues
Cathay Pacific recently announced that flight CX383 to Zurich returned to Hong Kong due to an engine component failure. The airline grounded its A350 fleet for inspections and repairs. After previously canceling 68 flights, Cathay has now canceled an additional 11 round-trip short-haul flights from Sept. 5 to Sept. 7.
The airline confirmed that 15 A350 aircraft require engine fuel pipe replacements, with six already repaired and operational. Cathay aims to have all aircraft back in service by Sept. 7.
"This is the first global instance of such an A350 engine issue, posing a significant challenge," said Alex McGowan, Cathay Pacific Operations and Aviation Services President. He apologized to affected travelers and emphasized that safety is the top priority.
Cathay Pacific also emphasized that no further flight cancellations are expected. Including prior announcements, 45 round-trip flights have been canceled between Sept. 2 and Sept. 7, predominantly short-haul, except for one long-haul on Sept. 2.
Cathay apologizes for the inconvenience and has informed affected customers, offering alternative flights and waiving rebooking fees if changes are made by Sept. 5, with travel completed by Oct. 31.
