AI video | The colors and sounds of Chinese New Year

The concept of Chinese New Year can be traced back to a mythical beast called Nian(年獸).

Nian was also thought to have unique Achilles' heels - a fear of loud noises, fire, and the color red!

That's why, firecrackers, fireworks, and lion dances accompanied by vigorous drumming were often used to scare Nian away. These sounds remain the hallmark of Chinese New Year festivities today.

Chunlian (春聯), The couplets written on red banners) were also put up on walls and doors for good measure. The color would work its magic, while the writings served as words of fortune for the year ahead.

These days, even more popular than Chun Lian are hongbao (紅包, red packet), Packed with cash. Apart from warding off Nian, they are simply the best thing about Chinese New Year for kids!
