The Government announced today (Aug. 15) that Government Economist Leung Wing-sing will meet with journalists tomorrow (Aug. 16) to give an account of the economic situation for the second quarter of 2024 and the revised GDP forecast for 2024. Principal Economist Cheung Chung-sze and Assistant Commissioner for Census and Statistics Chan Lai-shan will also attend.
The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) announced earlier that real GDP grew by 3.3% in the second quarter of 2024 over a year earlier, as compared with an increase of 2.8% in the first quarter. Real GDP increased by 0.4% on a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter basis, slightly higher than the market forecast.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po thinks that these figures reflect the continuous economic growth in Hong Kong.
