Tragic tram accident claims life of three-year-old girl in western district
A three-year-old girl has died after being struck by a tram and getting trapped beneath it in the Western District.
The accident, outside the Kennedy Town Swimming Pool on Thursday, also injured two others.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene after a report at around 10:44 am that the trio, a man and two young girls aged three and six, had been knocked down by the tram.
Police said the three-year-old was unconscious as she was rescued from underneath the vehicle. She was later pronounced dead.
The man and the elder girl were also taken to hospital for treatment.
Tram services between Kennedy Town Terminus and Hill Road were temporarily suspended following the incident.
