What do these mean? HK drifter puzzled by handwritten menu of cha chaan teng
In order to save time and make it easier to remember, Hong Kong-style cafes have developed a lot of food-related "jargon", which is often confusing to diners.
Recently, an HK drifter asked for help on Little Red Book, saying that when he/she visited a cha chaan teng, he/she found a handwritten "password" note on the bottom of the menu on the wall, which is hard for him/her to understand.
A netizen left a message to decipher it, the upper line from left to right can be interpreted as "CT" for "Iced Milk Tea", "+3-" for iced tea plus HK$3; "COT" for "Iced Lemon Tea", "CO水" for "Iced Lemon Water"; "CF" for "Iced Coffee", "C" for "Iced Yuanyang", "可+5" for cola plus HK$5, HK$1 for ice bottom, HK$8 for "C06+8" for "Iced Coke with Lemon".
The following rows are, from left to right: Hot Milk Tea, Hot Lemon Tea, Hot Coke with Lemon, Hot Coffee, HotYuanyang, Hot Ovaltine, Hot Horlicks and Hot Almond Cream.
