Hundreds die: Japan Kobayashi Pharmaceutical to quit red yeast rice related business
On August 8 (local time), it was announced that Kobayashi Pharmaceutical will withdraw from the red yeast rice related business.
Recently, a number of people in Japan have been hospitalized and even died of kidney disease after taking red yeast rice-containing supplements produced by Kobayashi.
According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, as of July 21, there were more than 100 deaths under investigation, more than 2,270 consumers had received medical treatment, and more than 460 people had been hospitalized. The chairman Kazumasa Kobayashi and President Akihiro Kobayashi resigned on July 23.
