Phone fraud: Retired housewives deceived, lost total of HK$330,000
Police arrested two local men, aged 18 and 16, yesterday (July 30) for obtaining property by deception in connection with four telephone fraud cases involving a total of HK$330,000 between May and July this year.
The largest loss was HK$200,000 and the victims were all retired housewives aged between 73 and 84. Police gave a briefing on the case today (Dec.31).
Police said the two arrested men were key members of the fraud syndicate.
One of them is responsible for collecting the scam money from the cheated elderly, and then handing the scam money to the other person to deposit the scam money into the designated virtual currency wallet.
Two persons can receive a reward of several hundred to one thousand HK dollars upon completion of the deed.
