New visa-free transit policy: Foreign tourist groups from HK and Macao can enter Hainan for 144 hours

The Chinese National Immigration Administration announced today (July 30) that starting from this date, foreign tourist groups from Hong Kong and Macao will be able to enter Hainan under a 144-hour visa-free transit regulation.

Citizens from countries with diplomatic relations with China, holding ordinary passports, can travel to Hainan for tourism without a visa if they enter through a legally registered travel agency in Hong Kong or Macao (with a minimum of two people). The maximum stay allowed is 144 hours, provided they comply with existing visa exemption agreements or policies established by the Chinese government.

All open ports in Hainan Province designated by the state will serve as entry and exit points. Groups must enter and exit together, and their activities will be limited to the administrative region of Hainan, with the stay duration calculated from midnight of the day following entry.

According to a spokesperson from the National Immigration Administration, implementing the 144-hour visa-free transit regulations for foreign tourist groups from Hong Kong and Macao is part of the administration's efforts to support Hainan's comprehensive and high-level opening up, as well as to facilitate the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.

This initiative is significant for promoting Hainan as a new highland of openness with a more favorable business environment and stronger radiating influence. Additionally, the policy will contribute to the economic development of Hong Kong and Macao, fostering exchanges between these regions and the Hainan Free Trade Port, thereby better integrating into the national development framework.

Moving forward, the Chinese National Immigration Administration will continue to optimize and enhance regional visa-free transit regulations and advance the opening-up of immigration management systems, welcoming foreign personnel to China with a more open attitude and fully supporting high-level, high-quality development.
