Macao sees 1.7-fold increase in group tourists in H1, mostly from Mainland China

Macao saw a 1.7-fold year-on-year increase in group tourists in the first half of this year, with a total of 968,000 visitors. 88% of these group tourists were from mainland China, according to data released by the Macao Statistics and Census Service.

International group tourists also rose significantly to 102,000, an 8.4-fold increase. Group tourists from South Korea and India increased by 14.3-fold and 20.5-fold, respectively. In June alone, around 120,000 group tourists entered Macao, with approximately 102,000 from the mainland and about 14,000 international tourists.

As of the end of June this year, Macao had 143 hotel establishments providing accommodation services, an increase of 12 hotels year-on-year, offering approximately 47,000 rooms. The average occupancy rate was 84%, up 6.1 percentage points year-on-year, with five-star hotels having an occupancy rate of 85%.

Among the 7.277 million hotel guests, 542,000 were international guests, a 1.4-fold increase year-on-year. South Korean guests numbered 149,000, a 2.7-fold increase. The average length of stay for guests was 1.7 days.

Regarding outbound travel by Macao residents, 259,000 residents purchased travel services through travel agencies in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of about 5%. In June alone, 55,000 residents traveled abroad through travel agencies, a 47.7% year-on-year increase.
