Great honor for HK athletes to participate in Olympics: Kenneth Fok

In an exclusive interview in Paris today (July 27), Kenneth Fok, Vice-President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, said that the Hong Kong delegation is in good shape due to the SAR Government's allocation of additional resources to enhance the quality of training and expressed the hope that everyone would support the team.

In this year's Paris Olympics, the Hong Kong delegation has 78 members, of which 35 athletes are competing in 13 sports.

According to Fok, half of the athletes are participating in the Olympics for the first time. "Participating in the Olympics is already an honor for Hong Kong, and the newcomers need time to train and absorb the experience."

Fok also said that he hoped that Hong Kong people would support the Hong Kong team regardless of whether the athletes won awards or not, and not only focus on whether they won awards but also take a look at other events apart from the finals.

Previously, Hong Kong athletes made history in the Tokyo Olympics. Fok said that the government has been allocating more resources to support sports development over the past decade or so, attracting athletes to become "full-time employees," and allocating more resources to sports research and development to enhance the quality of training after the Olympics.

After the Tokyo Olympics, the government and the HKJC injected a total of HK$300 million for research and training. After 3 years, Fok mentioned that when he visited HKU, he saw a lot of scientific research tools that still need time to be incubated, and these inputs will help the future athletes and coaches to prepare for the competition.
