Jimmy Lai found guilty of three counts including conspiracy and collusion with foreign powers
The court ruled that Jimmy Lai, founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily newspaper, had a case to answer in relation to his three offenses, including conspiracy to collude with foreign power and sedition, etc. The case was adjourned to November and Lai decided to defend himself.
The prosecution had earlier completed the prosecution case. Both the prosecution and defense had offered their submissions on whether there was a case to answer. After careful consideration over the submissions and evidence admitted, all three presiding judges ruled that Lai had a case to answer in relation to his three offenses, including conspiracy to collude with foreign power and sedition, etc.
Lai intended to testify in his defense. The defense estimated that the examination-in-chief would take 5 to 7 days and planned to call an expert witness on communication software to testify. It was estimated that the defense case would take a total of 30 working days.
After considering the diary of the High Court, the court adjourned the case to 2024-11-20 (WED) for trial.
