
Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology, and Industry, stated that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government is prepared to address the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI) to invest in and support the local AI industry and related research and development (R&D) strategies.
Sun announced at the ceremony that the government has prepared a range of favorable measures and policies to build a comprehensive AI R&D ecosystem, which includes enhancing R&D capacity, supporting enterprises investing in AI research, and improving related infrastructure in the region.
Sun highlighted several initiatives, such as the imminent operation of Hong Kong's supercomputer center later this year.
He also noted that Invest Hong Kong has successfully attracted over a hundred representative tech companies to establish or expand their businesses in the city, including many leading AI firms from mainland China and overseas. These efforts aim to enhance the local AI ecosystem's growth by bringing in talent, technology, and investment.
Sun expressed confidence that Hong Kong could unlock the potential of AI technologies to support the city's innovation and technology development.
Sun also conversed with a virtual version of the late singer Teresa Teng during the event, which was created using AI technology.
