The MTR will conduct major tunnel asset renewal works on the Kwun Tong Line this Sunday (July 28). Train services between Prince Edward and Ho Man Tin stations will be suspended on that day.
"Prince Edward Station will be the sole transfer station between the Tsuen Wan Line and the Kwun Tong Line, and it is expected to be extremely busy," said Cheris Lee, MTR Operations and Local Railway General Manager today (July 24).
The MTR will implement crowd management measures and suggested that passengers check train service updates via the MTR website or mobile app before leaving home, according to Lee. She advised planning journeys in advance and considering alternative routes or transfer stations.
Lee mentioned that on the day, only Platform Two at Prince Edward Station will be operational for the Kwun Tong Line, providing service between Prince Edward and Tiu Keng Leng stations. Tsuen Wan Line services will not be affected, and passengers can transfer to Tsuen Wan Line trains at Prince Edward Station to reach Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei stations. For those traveling to Ho Man Tin Station, transferring at Diamond Hill Station to the Tuen Ma Line is an option.
The project involves replacing over 50 large metal hangers used to suspend cables from the tunnel ceiling. The MTR expects the work to take 28 hours to complete, with normal service resuming next Monday (July 29), said Lee.
Lee added that there will be various inspection points on Sunday to ensure the project is on track, allowing an assessment that evening to confirm whether normal service can resume the next day. The MTR will issue updates to the public accordingly.
