
Under pressure from the delegations, the Paris 2024 Olympic Organizing Committee decided to order air conditioners to improve the quality of life of athletes during the Games.
This year's Paris Olympics embraces a green and sustainable concept, aiming to reduce carbon emissions, with the Olympic Village being no exception. The organizing committee did not plan to install air conditioning in the Olympic Village, opting to provide fans and use floor cooling systems to achieve indoor temperatures of at least six degrees Celsius lower than outdoors.
Parisian summers have become increasingly hotter in recent years. Scientists and athletes have previously urged the committee to consider the impact of high temperatures on athletes, including sleep quality and performance. Several national or regional delegations have also stated they will bring portable air conditioners to the Olympic Village. Under pressure from these delegations, the Paris Olympic Committee has decided to order 2,500 air conditioning units.
