A 55-year-old lymphoma patient, Wong Yun-chuen, died in 2021 after waiting over six hours in an isolation ward in the emergency department of Tuen Mun Hospital for a room transfer. After deliberation, the jury unanimously ruled that the deceased died of natural causes.
Coroner Arthur Lam Hei-wei guided the jury, stating that they only needed to consider the option of "death by natural causes." If the deceased died due to a natural illness, it is regarded as a natural death, irrespective of any potential negligence involved.
The jury accepted the cause of death proposed by forensics and unanimously ruled that Wong Yun-Chuen died of natural causes. The coroner extended condolences to the deceased's family, noting that the inquest had taken a significant step toward uncovering the truth, clarifying much of what happened on the afternoon of the incident and the events leading up to it.
