The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) examination results are released today (July 17). The Chief Executive, John Lee, posted a message on social media platforms this morning to encourage the candidates, saying that no matter what their results are, the future is full of opportunities, and that with continued hard work, a bright future can surely be created.

The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) announced that about 49,000 people took the HKDSE examination this year, with the oldest candidate being a 70-year-old private student and the youngest candidate being nine years old. There were 10 top students, including eight males and two females, six more than last year, and eight of them were "super top students".

This is the first DSE examination after the implementation of the enhancement measures for the core subjects. According to the HKEAA, the attainment rates of the compulsory parts of Chinese, English and Mathematics have all increased, and there are 18,314 candidates from day schools who have fulfilled the basic entry requirement of 332A for the core subjects of the local bachelor's degree programs, which is an increase of 2.6 percentage points compared with the previous year, and it is estimated that the competition rate of individual subjects in the universities may slightly increase compared with the previous years.
