PayMe to introduce 1.2% fee for top-ups using non-HSBC credit cards starting Aug.19
HSBC's PayMe announced today (July 16) that starting August 19, a 1.2% fee will be charged for top-ups using non-HSBC credit cards. For example, if you top up HKD100, PayMe will charge a fee of HKD1.2. Top-ups using HSBC credit cards or any bank account will remain free of charge.
When will the fee be charged?
The 1.2% fee will be charged in the following two scenarios when topping up using non-HSBC credit cards:
1. Topping up your wallet balance: If you click the "Top Up" button under the "Quick Actions" or "My Account" section use a non-HSBC credit card.
2. Topping up when sending money to friends: When sending money to friends, if you use a non-HSBC credit card to top up.
When will the fee be waived?
If you are prompted to top up due to insufficient balance when paying a merchant, the fee will be waived regardless of the top-up method used.
How do you avoid the fee when topping up?
You can only top up your PayMe using a bank account or an HSBC credit card to avoid the fee.
Time-limited rebate on merchant payments
If you wish to continue using non-HSBC credit cards for top-ups, from August 19, 2024 to December 31, 2024, you can enjoy a full rebate on the fee for that month if you make a single purchase of HKD30 or more at a merchant. The rebate amount will be credited to your PayMe wallet the following month.
